Hi,

All kind of drag & drop actions (moving, copying, drag to open program etc) in Nautilus stops working once I enter seamless mode in virtualbox.
Functionality is restored as I leave the seamless mode.

OS: Ubuntu Karmic (9.10)
vbox: 3.1.0.r55467
* Compiz not installed

Any ideas, should it be reported as a bug?

Gnome apps have a bad habbit of not working properly. Gedit hates shared folders for example. Can you do the same with other file managers, like pcmanfm? Can you drag'n'drop text from one window to another (e.g. gedit, mousepad, abiword, OpenOffice.org, browsers)?

Some important information, that I forgot to mention, is that I'm using dual monitors and Windows XP as guest os.

If virtualbox seamless is active on screen 1, the following doesn't work:
Drag n' drop FROM any application (except OpenOffice & Lotus Symphony) on screen 2 TO anything(desktop/application windows) on screen 1.
Drag n' drop FROM any application (except OpenOffice & Lotus Symphony) on screen 1 To desktop on screen 1.

All other drag n' drop actions worked.
"Any application" would be Firefox, Eclipse, Nautilus, PCManfm, gedit, Filezilla, gFTP.

What seems to be common for the applications that do work, is that they display another icon when drag n' dropping out of it.

Any ideas?

I was assuming you were dragging and dropping inside the VM. Anything that involves the Host does not work. A quick search would have shown you that.

Yes, I was aware that host-guest interactions didn't work. However, my problems doesn't involve the guest at all, just trying to achieve things like moving files etc.

Well, I have no idea. With my Xfce, I can drag'n' drop files from Thunar to Thunar, pcmanfm to pcmanfm, pcmanfm to Thunar and vice versa. All while having an XP VM in seamless on the same workspace. No multi monitor though. Sounds like a Gnome bug. You can do the same thing when the VM isn't running?

Yup, and also while VM is running without seamless mode.

I can do that too, but no actions involving the desktop. This is also the case with xfce/thunar. Can you verify that you can move icons on your desktop while in seamless mode? Thanks

Ah, now I see. There seems to be some kind of overlay on it. I can select icons, I can get the context menu, I can create a rectangle for selection, but moving it doesn't seem to work. Please file a bug report in the Bugtracker (separate account needed). Be sure to explain the situation as clear as possible. Also, if you have Compiz on (Desktop Effects), disable them and try again to see if that makes any difference. I have Compiz-Fusion enabled by default and can't really disable it now (too many things running on different workspaces).

That'd be my guess as well. Especially since the window taskbar is rendered on the bottom of the screen.
