Network Connection

Post by Doyley »

Hi all,

I have VirtualBox installed on Fiesty Ubuntu. I have installed XP Home as the guest OS but the internet connection does not work when using XP.
If I ping a domain name it will find the IP address but then I get request timed out.

Does anybody have any ideas? It is probably something really simple but I have never used this software before so I'm not completely sure what I'm doing.

Many thanks!!

No, not with these Infos.

Please tell more and exact Details about the Guest Network Adapter, the Guest Settings.

Or do you mean the Host Internet Connectivity?

Which VB Version?

What a Network Adapter in VB Guest Settings?

What a Network Card in XP?

Network Settings in XP?

Call "ipconfig" in Guest, post Output.

OK I've been a bit of an idiot. I was trying to ping all of the time rather than firing up my browser and trying it. The ping doesn't respond but the internet works. Strange.
Anyway, thanks for your help. Would you like my settings for future reference?

No, not really. You must been using NAT.

If yount want a Ping in both Directions, you have to setup a Host Adapter. See User Doc, Chapter 6.5),

Yes, that's all right. HTML with the browser goes thru NAT, ping is blocked by the Windows firewall. Disable the firewall and ping will also response.
