Various problems running Windows XP from a Redhat Linux host

Post by baseballbob »

I'm experiencing some glitches when running XP from a Redhat Linux Enterprise WS 4 host, kernel level is 2.6.9.42.0.3-EL on an IBM ThinkCenter. The worst one is that Linux freezes up after I close the virtual machine, every time, and I have to restart the OS.

The XP host boots up fine, from a VMWare disk image, although it was a quite a bit slower than under VMWare. However, in order th make the networking stuff work via NAT, I needed to uninstall Vmware Tools to remove the accelerated AMD driver. Is there a way to make the network drivers coexist betwen VMWare and VirtualBox?

Booting from a raw disk image did not work (also XP but with a 3-way boot from Grub with Linux, XP and Zeta OS). I get a grub error 17. I can read/write the drive when making it the 2nd disk (drive E), but not boot from it.

Lastly, has anyone got Beos Zeta 1.51 working under VirtualBox? Mine boots OK but can't find the network driver.
