Just upgraded to vbox 2.1.0
My Host system is archlinux 64bit
Guest is for example Xp 32bit Sp3.
After some time the machine terminates immediately
dmesg shows:
Iam using nat to.
I switched from "amd PcNet Fast II Card" to Intel 1000 MT Desktop(needed to download drivers from intel).
It seems to solve the problem.
Thanks for the reply. Curious, did you come across something that pointed to the interface type or did you go on a hunch? My XP guest is up an running again and I'm using it right now. I might wait to see if it crashes again but I did download the Intel driver just in case!
Mine crashes as well on intrepid with this in dmesg:
[198275.459723] VirtualBox[21458]: segfault at 19 ip b2b729ff sp b1b6df70 error 6 in VBoxDD.so[b2aca000+1b4000]
Not sure what it could be but i've switched over to the Intel driver to see if that helps or not. It crashes about 2-3x per day since I upgraded to 2.1.0 and it's very random.
It crashed a few seconds/minutes after startup. I changed the Network Card because the crash often happened after using programms with networkaccess (for example Mail Client)

Hi. I forgot to mention when I first posted that the guest is Windows XP SP3 and also that I upgraded VirtualBox from 2.0.6 to 2.1.0 on Ubuntu 8.0.4 from the package repository. I also converted the existing virtual machine from the 1.3 format to the 1.5 but did back up prior so I should be able to rollback to VB 2.0.6.
What I am wondering is if everyone that is having this random crashing behavior also did an upgrade of VB vs new install and also if the guest is Windows XP and what service pack. Oh, I also installed the new guest additions in case that plays a role.
I am having guest crashes as well. I am using Ubuntu 8.10 i386 32 bit. I was not able to upgrade the vbox package, so I uninstalled 2.0.6 and re-installed 2.1. The guest is XP SP3 with upgraded guest additions. I had to eventually roll back to 2.0.6.
So guys, are there any bug reports related to this issue? I have it too (on Debian with 2.6.28 and VB 2.1.0) and it seems to be a regular bug and not some single user hardware/software problem.
Ubuntu 8.10 host, WinXP SP2 Home Guest, Virtualbox 2.1. Crashes with and without 3D acceleration checked. Never happened in 2.0.6 or OSE, started as soon as I upgraded to 2.1. Sounds like it's back to 2.0.6 (though I'll miss 2.1's key-repeat bugfix).
