Possible parallel installation of v6 & v7 ?

Post by JeWu »

Hi all!

I am currently running VB v6.1.44 on a Mint host.
I want to try out VB v7.x now.

I just don't want to purge the existing installation right away.

So my question is:
can I install VB v7.x in parallel, without messing up the existing v6 installation and if yes, how to separate it properly?
(I won't run both versions simultaneously, though)

Thanks in advance.

VirtualBox needs to install drivers etc in the host OS, so it is not currently possible to install two VirtualBox versions at the same time on a single host.

I suggest that you make an image backup of your host that you can restore if you want to go back.

As an alternative, you could attach a fast external UBS3 SSD to your host and install Linux Mint and VirtualBox 7.0 onto it. When booting the host from that installation and running a VM inside, disk I/O performance might be somewhat degraded, but the rest of the hardware would be identical.
