VBox version 7.0.8 on Linuxc Mint 21.1 opens with a really annoying panel on the right that is supposedly an information center.
I have only found other people hating this "innovation".
Is there a way of disabling it?

Not a complete disable, no. You can disable the individual error messages that appear in the message panel in the individual VM windows, then the panel won't slide out until an undisabled error message appears. But the main Virtualbox window's panel cannot be so disabled, because there is no option to disable the messages in the panel.
