There was a thread viewtopic.php?f=7&t=107363 discussing this since 7.02 and it's now locked.
Is this issue solved? if solved, can someone post the resolution?
I just upgraded to 7.0.6 and the 7.0.6 guest addin would still cause my Win 11 freeze up after running things like Edge browser and/or file explorer. It'd uses up all the CPUs allocated the the guest.
If I enable 3D acceleration, my office applications would be showing a solid black window in Win 11.
I'm using the Intel CPU integrated graphics. Don't have a discrete graphics card.
Downgrading back to the guest addin of 6.1.40 would keep things working.

Re: 7.0.6 Guest Addin lock up Win 11
While running 7.0.6 Virtualbox, Extension Pack if used, and Guest Additions, please create a ticket in the Bugtracker with the problem description, the manufacturer and model of the host PC's graphics card, even if integrated, the graphics driver version (on the host OS), and a (zipped) VBox.log file.
If your host OS is Linux, please provide a zip file with the output of the 'vulkaninfo' command in the Bugtracker ticket, too. (on Debian/Ubuntu/Mint hosts, you may have to install the vulkan-tools package).

Re: 7.0.6 Guest Addin lock up Win 11
I can confirm this has happened for me on multiple Ubuntu 22.04LTS hosts running Win 11. Works fine until you update the guest additions. Apparently this has been know since around October of last year:

As a workaround, if you just leave the VBox 6.1 guest additions installed (don't upgrade), everything is fine. I would be curious to know when this is resolved so I can upgrade the GAs with out borking the VM (fortunately snapshots before upgrading can make restoring trivial).
Good luck,
M

Re: 7.0.6 Guest Addin lock up Win 11
This means that the issue probably has not been reproducible for the VirtualBox developers so far (or that nobody has reported it on the Bugtracker).iMGin3D wrote:Apparently this has been know since around October of last year [...]
At least not before it can be reproduced, and a ticket in the Bugtracker could help the VirtualBox developers to reproduce the issue.iMGin3D wrote:I would be curious to know when this is resolved [...]

Re: 7.0.6 Guest Addin lock up Win 11
I can confirm the same symptoms as the OP, specifically Win11 guest freezing when opening Explorer, and artifacts with 3D accel enabled.
Each 7.0.x VB release thus far exhibits the same problems.
I've been following the following bug reports (oldest to newest). In the meantime I returned to the 6.1.x series, currently running 6.1.42 which remains issue-free for me.
Freezes:
https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/21291
https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/21431
https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/21448

Artifacts / 3D Accel:

https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/21233
https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/21433
https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/21515
As mentioned up-thread, running the 7.0.x VB releases using 6.1.4x GA version works fine and does not freeze, but this seems an awful workaround.

Updated all the linked tickets and cross-referenced each with "See Also" links to the other "dupes" so the individual reporters can see they're not alone.
The bug-tracking system is quite antiquated, and it appears there's no way to link issues or mark as duplicate. That must be tough to work with from a developer perspective.

Re: 7.0.6 Guest Addin lock up Win 11
Can confirm this same problem on Win11 host with Win10 guest and 7.0.6 guest additions as of this date. Using an HP zBook 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12800H 2.40 GHz with an embedded NVIDIA RTX A2000 8GB Laptop GPU.
I was able to remove the 7.0.6 guest additions from my VM. Then used the 6.1.40 ISO from virtualbox to downgrade. This has restored my VM's stability for the time being.

Confirming the issue still exists, guest addition 7.0.6 on win 11 10.2.22621 Build 22621.
Can someone please link me to more detailed instructions on where to find a stable version of guest additions to install? I'm only after the higher resolution video driver access

DuncanH, the issue will still exist while you're using the same version as others with the issue. QED.
Me-too-ers are expected to read the topic and apply its suggestions before they post their me-too.
When 7.0.8 comes out, then there will be a new version of Guest Additions to try.
