Just one thing to keep in mind

in case of ubuntu fork, you have to do an extra download of the GA

Ubuntu forks Virtualbox, and they do their own things with their fork. Official Virtualbox from www.virtualbox.org comes with the GAs ISO bundled in, so no extra download needed.

From the beginning configuration settings in the log, the hard drive is port 0 and CD is port 1. Looks like the VM read half a Meg from the CD then went to town on the hard drive. I deduce that this was a "Press any key to boot from CD" that timed out. I might be wrong, though.

While the /Public/Storage/.../BytesRead|Written statistics serve as prove, there's also an indication beforehand to watch for:

The "Press any key to boot from CD" type of message mandates waiting for timeout, which often is ~4 seconds. The Windows boot loader changes the display resolution to 1024x768 quite early, typically within <1 second, even if it loads from an ISO image.
