This problem started after upgrading the host kernel to 5.17.15. The version of VB is 6.1.34
I have several VMs - an old WinXP seems to work okay, I have not tried the Win10 VM as I seldom use it however the two Kubuntu VMs (20.04) have this problem on both of the two host systems they run on. I can boot the Kubuntu VM and one of two things happen. It either 1) goes directly to a black screen or 2) goes to the login screen. If option two happens with host kernels 5.17.15 through 5.18.7 it was not possible to enter a password and after a few seconds the screen would go black. ACPI shutdown did not work and I have to close the machine. With kernel 5.18.8, both options still occur however I now appear to be able to input my password on the login screen but it then goes blank. With 5.18.8 I am now getting a error message in the VM window indicating that a module has closed unexpectedly. It is not the same module however being reported with each boot - so far, the modules reported have been Plasmashell, kde5 and Kwin_x11.
In order to be able to use the Kubuntu VMs, the host has to be booted with kernel 5.17.11.
Oh - the host OS is PCLinuxOS (fully updated)
VM screen goes black

Re: VM screen goes black
The actual problem is that VirtualBox 6.1.34 and 6.1.97r150532 do not support Linux kernel 5.17.15 on the host and will produce random crashes in the guest (pun intended ). See 20914 and Windows 10 Guest on Linux host dies seconds after boot for details.
The VirtualBox test builds 6.1.35r151864 (and newer) are supposed to support Linux kernels 5.18, 5.17.12+, 5.15.44+, 5.10.119+ and more on the host and in the guest.
