VBOX hanging on ALL guest installs
VBOX hanging on ALL guest installs
Greetings All,
Hope everyone is well!
i have Zorin Linux OS installed since last year along with Virtual Box and was running two windows Guest VMS for months with no issues on the linux Host.
Around 2 weeks ago, after updating the kernel on the host as well as updating VBox Guest additions, both my windows VMS did not work properly anymore.
Browsers would not open, Both VM's were slow and sometimes non responsive.
I have tried re-installing video drivers, ( host)
reinstalling Vbox
checked HD's
Error messages im getting on guest machine in dmesg when attempting to install LINUX guest
machine specs
OS: Zorin OS 16.1 x86_64
Kernel: 5.17.0-14.1-liquorix-amd64
Uptime: 1 day, 13 hours, 31 mins
Packages: 2503 (dpkg), 71 (flatpak), 4 (snap)
Shell: bash 5.0.17
Resolution: 1920x1080, 1920x1080
CPU: Intel i7-2600K (8) @ 3.401GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
GPU: Intel 2nd Generation Core Processor Family
Memory: 5241MiB / 32010MiB
I am now at the point where Virtual Box will hang on ANY installation.
i have tried, Zorin | Ubuntu | Mint | windows OS read through all the articles with the different settings and have tried every scenario under the sun.
ALL are failing at some point during the installation.
reading up on many pages indicates that this has been an issue for a few years across different versions of VBOX,
any help or comments will be greatly appreciated. As of now VBOX is useless on my Main HOST Linux machine which is a shame as i LOVE this app.
thank you all in advance.
CHEERS !

Re: VBOX hanging on ALL guest installs
Linux kernel 5.17 is only supported by VirtualBox 6.1.34 (or newer).

Re: VBOX hanging on ALL guest installs
Provide a VM log file. Make sure the VM is fully shut down, then right click it in the manager UI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (no other file) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

From the log:
Which means this:
And you're running the Ubuntu fork of Virtualbox, supported by Ubuntu, not this forum. Please try the installation from https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads again, noting that Virtualbox on Linux has prerequisites before installation: https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch02. ... nux-prereq, and watch the terminal messages for errors.

The log shows what appears to be working virtual hardware, and the OS apparently running and the Guest Additions loading.

I wonder if you'd need to try the test build? Please see viewtopic.php?f=7&t=106071&p=519331#p519286 regarding the host Linux version you have.Host OS:

Re: VBOX hanging on ALL guest installs
Most probably, yes. And kudos for choosing the right strategy recommending the test build, because:scottgus1 wrote:I wonder if you'd need to try the test build?
Unfortunately, it's not easy to compare the Linux kernel versions, because each Linux distribution has their own versioning scheme. For example, a Liquorix kernel 5.17.0-14.1 is generally based on Linux kernel 5.17.0 and contains "some of" the changes of the newer Linux kernels 5.17.x. This "some of" would have to be researched to be absolutely sure, but in the Liquorix case the "14" indicates indeed that 5.17.14 is the Linux kernel base version.
Re: VBOX hanging on ALL guest installs
Thank you for the responses Folks,
guess I'm waiting for a stable release.
In the meantime may mess around with the testing version.
going forward, i guess updating is a bad thing..
sucks....
