graphics accelerator or OpenGL problem

Post by guytou13470 »

Hello,
I installed VB on UBUNTU LS 20.4, then Windows 8.1 t SketchMake2017 (SU), when running SU there is an error message, the software does not detect the graphics acceleration. If I check my map on UBUNTU, it is "rendering = yes", in VB graphic acceleration is well checked and in the windows8.vbox file, I have "accelerate3D = true". where is the problem
best regards

Start the VM from full power off, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the VM from within the VM OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.

Please right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log, zip the log file, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

The Devices menu is visible when the VM is running.

And copying the ISO around is pointless. The correct ISO is bundled with VirtualBox, assuming you used the official install.

Inserting the CD does nothing more than that - it inserts the CD. It is up to the guest OS what happens next, e.g. whether it launches default apps from the CD automatically. If not then you must browse to the CD and launch the app manually.

Btw, your question definitely does not belong in "Linux Hosts", since you don't talk about the host at all. The best location would be in an <xxxx> Guests forum, but you neglect to say what the guest OS is. That is an unfortunate omission since not all guests are supported by Guest Additions.

Hello mpack

The host is Ubuntu TLS 20.4 (with radéon graphics card and declared graphics acceleration),
VBox has been downloaded from the official site, it is version 16.30, in Vbox I installed Windows 8.1
When I try to run SketchUpMake_2017 .
When launching SketchUp I got the error message "Hardware acceleration is not taken into account or disabled ...."
So I'm trying to enable the graphics acceleration of the card.
Thank you

Topic moved to "Windows Guests".

As you surmise, 3D acceleration will not be available until the Guest Additions have been installed.

Please provide a VM log file. Make sure the VM is fully shut down, then right click it in the manager UI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (no other file) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

I followed the instructions in Chapter 4 Installing the VirtualBox Guest Additions
I downloaded the iso file corresponding to version 6.1.30. An installation was performed on Ubuntu, then I declared this iso file as an image drive in devices, a request for installation in windows 8 was requested, I clicked OK but the installation stopped with the following error :

Please provide the log file I asked for in my previous post.

Note that Windows in a VM works the same as Windows on a host PC: you need admin rights to install drivers, and AV can interfere.

Also, I assume you understand that Guest Additions are to be installed inside the guest, i.e. inside the Virtual Machine, you do not install them on the host.

I merged guytou13470's two topics, as it appears this is the same problem: getting Guest Additions installed.

Hi,
thanks for the merge

Yes it is OK. I added a new virtual machine with windows10, I launched in windows10 VBox_GAs_6.1.30.iso all the installations were carried out correctly then I rebooted windows. Do not change the graphics card driver, I read a POST about a VVM driver because I always have new error error:"The OpenGL version of your graphics card "SVGA3D; build: RELEASE; " is 2.1. SketchUp requires a graphics card that supports OpenGL 3.0 or higher."
