VB can't see the NIC on my new motherboard

Post by mrzenwiz »

I'm running Xubuntu 21.10 on a brand new motherboard with a different network adapter from the old m/b (duh).

However, my VB 6.2.2 can't see the new network interface and it won't let me use the new one.

The old one was enp0s25, and the new one is enp5s0. The only ones VB sees (according to the network settings for my bridged adapters) are enp0s25 or wlp4s0.

How can I correct these to the right one?

I'm using the GUI - not familiar enough with VBoxManage for this, and Google doesn't understand the question at all.

Thanks!

Maybe a fat-finger? :D I think they're going to jump from 6.1. to 7.0.

Can you please run this command in the host Terminal, and post the output:

vboxmanage list bridgedifs

Also, please right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose "Show in Explorer/Finder/File Manager". In the window that opens, zip the VM's .vbox file (not the .vbox-prev file), and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab. (Please make sure all file extensions are shown, so you will be able to see the .vbox extension easier.)

Finally, please post the output of "ip address" or "ifconfig" on your host OS.

I am pleased to report that, somehow, behind the scenes, VB picked up the new adapter (enp5s0) and it seems to work fine on my non-Windows VMs.

I will keep this for reference should weirdness like this occur in the future.

Many thanks.
