Suspend causes screen to lockup on restore

Post by HarryMan »

Host is Devuan Beowulf (Debian Buster) with all the latest updates.
Guest is Devuan Beowulf, also with all the latest updates.
Host and guest are running vbox 6.1.26 software.
Host video is VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cedar [Radeon HD 5000/6000/7350/8350 Series] (from lspci on host)

Was running guest in window mode
Using XFCE desktop menu -> Logout -> Suspend

Hit the spacebar to wake up the VM
No response from VM desktop (XFCE)
Mouse motions and clicks do not respond
Keyboard does not respond
Tried the built-in vbox virtual keyboard; no response

Waited 5 or 10 minutes; still no response.

Note that I can see the desktop updating the time (my clock shows seconds, just for this reason!) so the system is still running.
I can get a console in the VM also. However, even switching back to the desktop after this does not jar any response (I have found that, sometimes, things like that actually work)
