[Feedback:] A thoughtless error message that adds insult to injury

Post by WhatHaveYou »

The injury: in certain circumstances - and these circumstances are too frequent - VirtualBox fails to launch a VM for a particular reason.

The insult: the error message suggests a command that will fix the problem, but the command is not copy-pastable and is even hard to read. Screenshot.

Related to the insult: the specific (not general) version number of VirtualBox is invisible unless selected. (For, this text is selectable!) Screenshot. Screenshot.

(Also: the image linking on this board seems broken: `img` tags fail.)

My system
OS: Linux Mint 20.2 x86_64
Host: 20KH001UKP ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6th
Kernel: 5.11.0-37-generic
Resolution: 2560x1440 @ 60.01Hz
DE: Cinnamon 5.0.5
WM: Mutter (Muffin)
WM Theme: Mint-Y-Dark (Mint-Y-Dark)
Theme: Mint-Y-Dark [GTK2/3]
Icons: Paper [GTK2/3]
CPU: Intel i7-8550U (8) @ 4.000GHz
GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 620
VirtualBox version: well, try to decipher it from the screenshot above.

VirtualBox 6.1.x (and earlier) simply does not support dark mode. Some GUI elements use the system colors, some use fixed colors, and the latter are not configurable.

IMG tags have been defeated for off-site picture servers, so folks can't switch out legitimate images for porn later. IMG only works for pictures that have been uploaded with Upload Attachment.

Images should be cropped and resized to get under the forum's 128kB size limit yet remain readable, then posted using the forum's Upload Attachment tab. This is possible from first day first post.

Repeating the text of the error message will help those of us, who don't want to pull up 3rd-party-served images from text-only links, understand your problem.
