Critical Error: guru meditation : after a power loss

Post by nachovirt »

I am getting an error after a power-loss. No issues before this power loss. My computer is just fine after the power loss. Virtualbox won't run ANY VMs now.

Virtualbox - Guru Meditation
A critical error has occurred while running the virtual machine and the machine execution has been stopped.

Scenario: I have 6 VMs, but all were "powered off" except for 1 VM. I was running the 1 VM just fine, and a power-loss occurred. Now after a reboot, ALL 6 VMs will not turn on, only giving the same error I am reporting here.

Host: Ubuntu 16.04.7 LTS (up-to-date as of 06/22/21)
Virtualbox: 6.1.22 r144080
Guest: pfSense-CE-2.5.1-RELEASE-amd64

I am attaching a zip of the LOG (I also have log.1, log.2, log.3 if needed)

I recognize this error, and it doesn't AFAIK have anything to do with issues resulting from a power loss. It looks like you have KVM running, and that conflicts with VirtualBox. You can only run one hypervisor at a time if both want to use hardware acceleration.

Thank you @mpack! I appreciate your insight. (I couldn't grasp what text to focus on in the log file). It was my first time to test a VM inside QEMU/KVM at the time of the power loss. I jumped right into QEMU/KVM again after my reboot, and didn't think/realize about 2 hypervisors at the same time. I have now disabled QEMU/KVM VM instance that I was testing, and the Virtualbox VMs now turn on correctly!
