Hardware Clock in UTC Time.

Post by hack3rcon »

Hello,
I launched a Samba DC and according to the https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Time_Synchronisation tutorial, I want to configure a Time server. I did it as the tutorial said, but my Windows client couldn't read the Time from my Samba DC:

What is the usage of "Hardware Clock in UTC Time" option? Should I enable it?

Thank you.

According to the manual:
Hardware Clock in UTC Time: If selected, Oracle VM VirtualBox will report the system
time in UTC format to the guest instead of the local (host) time. This affects how the virtual
real-time clock (RTC) operates and may be useful for UNIX-like guest OSes, which typically
expect the hardware clock to be set to UTC.
Couldn't hurt to try, if a good backup is in place.

I would also suppose that the VM OS has to be told there is a time server out there on the network. It would then stop looking at the local 'hardware' clock provided by Virtualbox, and starts looking to the network provider for time.

Setting the Hardware Clock to UTC Time will probably not inform the OS to look for a network time server.
