X Windows Not Displaying correctly

Post by Axe »

After updating to virtualbox 6.1.20 on Ubuntu 20.04, the xming ver 6.9.0.31 x windows on Windows 10 display is messed up so bad it's almost unusable. Has anybody else have this problem? If so, did you find a solution?

Please post the global configuration file ~/.config/VirtualBox/VirtualBox.xml.

I don't know the solution, but I can explain what I've been looking for:

The LastWindowPosition setting shows that the VirtualBox Manager window is 730 pixels wide, and the SplitterSizes settings 243 and 486 show that the window display area is divided into 3 equal thirds. A few other users have had problems with disappearing windows contents when the splitter positions were near the window borders, but this it not the case here.

Generally speaking, I could imagine that not all of the parties involved (Windows 10, VirtualBox, Xming) have the same view of the number of pixels available. I'd suspect some DPI setting, scale factor or HiDPI playing a role ...

What is strange is that it worked fine with Ubuntu 18.04 and VBox 6.1.18? The problem showed up with Ubuntu 20.04 and VBox 6.1.20.
