Where did my VirtualBox Manager go?

Post by JoeAB »

I installed VirtualBox 6.1.1.8 on Ubuntu 18.04 and created a virtual Ubuntu 16.04. I installed software, enabled full screen display and USB access over a couple of weeks. After not using it for the last couple of week I could not find the manager to start my VM again.
The is no icon under the Activities or Show Applications menus.

From a terminal i get:
Command 'virtualbox' not found, but can be installed with:
sudo apt install virtualbox-qt

and
Command 'VBoxManage' not found, but can be installed with:
sudo apt install virtualbox

The file system contains configurations, icons and logs but no obvious programs.

Where would the executable be?
Will installing from the terminal get back the same manager?
Will I still be able to access my existing VM if I re-install the VirtualBox?

Several posted vbox.logs show Virtualbox installed on Linux hosts in:

/usr/lib/virtualbox

If that folder is gone or empty, a reinstall should put it back. Use https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads for the install. We don't support the forks often provided in the Linux distro repositories. There are prerequisites, see https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch02. ... nux-prereq
