USB Ports not showing up under... oracle virtual box

when i navigate to settings/usb/ add new usb filter.... it tells me that there are no devices connected.
i have installed the extensions package and i am running oracle virtual box 5.2.42.
what should i do ?

it is running windows 10 64 bit in virtual box

Not enough information yet to really help but:

5.2.42 is very old and not supported anymore. The current version is 6.1.20

Which Linux are you using as host os? Did you follow the instructions in the manual correctly to setup the 'vboxusers' group?

Provide a VM log file. Make sure the VM is fully shut down, then right click it in the manager UI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (no other file) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

it is running kubuntu 18 lts.

i have never heard of vboxersusers setup.
