vt-x is not available (verr_vmx_no_vmx). virtualbox kali linux

Post by DrBrounsFox »

Hi
My laptop bios --> VT-X enabled (Toshiba Satellite C660).

This laptops runs on Ubuntu 18. On this OS I've installed Virtualbox 5.0. So far no problem. On this virtual machine is Kali succesfully installed.
On Kali I've installad Virtualbox 6.2 and here's the problem.
I've imported owasp BWA on this virtual machine but it won't boot.
Problem is: vt-x is not available (verr_vmx_no_vmx).

How can I solve this problem?

Installing "VirtualBox 6.2" is quite a trick, considering that the latest release is 6.1.18.

For the VT-x error, see: FAQ: I have a 64bit host, but can't install 64bit guests.

Thx for the quick reply and my excuses for mentioning the wrong version.

I've looked at the link that you've provided and if I understand correcty, them I'm stucked with my problem.
Because I want to run a virtualbox in a virtualbox.

The first virtualbox is no problem. Is working fine under Ubuntu. But this VM1 is going to use the VT-x. Is this the cause why the VM2 installed on Kali (on VM1) isn't working?

Is there a solution for this problem?

There is an option for nested VT-x in the VM settings. Read the user manual to find out which processors this works on. Don't confuse it with nested paging.
