Impossible to launch the virtual makchine

Post by fv6973 »

Hi, my virtual machine (win 8.1) don't launch anymore. I have tried to create a new one (win 7), but there's the same problem. I think that the only that has changed on my pc is a new graphic card, and automatic updates (I don't know exactly what). I am a "basic" user, I am blocked...
Could someone help me ? Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Error message :

At a guess, you upgraded VirtualBox while you had VMs in a suspended state, invalidating the suspended state file (they are not designed to be portable between versions). You would have to right click the VM and discard the saved state. In future I suggest that you avoid suspended states entirely - in this day and age with SSDs there is very little reason to use them.

Then don't post URLs. There's nothing stopping you from using the local "Upload attachment" tab. Remember to zip the log to ensure minimum size.

Double whammy here.

First, you are not using VirtualBox, you are using some cheap knock-off that the Ubuntu people created for their store, built from the open sources. We only support officlal builds on these forums.

Second, you have an official extension pack installed - but it's for the wrong version of VirtualBox entirely. That's a complete fail right there.

Go to the Downloads page and install the official release of VirtualBox for your host. Download the matching extension pack too and install that after installing the main package. You need to purge all remnants of pseudo-VBox from the host OS.

Modern Windows VMs generally like 2 CPU cores, not 1. Also I see you are using the deprecated VBoxVGA graphics chipset - that may be gone in a release or two, so now is the time to switch to VBoxSVGA, the recommended chipset for Windows guests.
