Good morning,
I installed the latest version of virtualbox, when launching a virtualle machine I have this error message " RTR3InitEx failed with rc=-1912 (fRtFlags=0x10000) (rc=-1912)
The VirtualBox kernel modules do not match this version of VirtualBox. The installation of VirtualBox was apparently not successful. Executing
'/sbin/vboxconfig'
may correct this. Make sure that you are not mixing builds of VirtualBox from different sources.
where: supR3HardenedMainInitRuntime what: 4 VERR_VM_DRIVER_VERSION_MISMATCH (-1912) - The installed support driver doesn't match the version of the user".
I tried with the command in the dialog box, the problem still remains. So I would like to know if there is a solution to this problem.
Thank you

Re: The VirtualBox kernel modules do not match this version of VirtualBox
You need to purge the repo version before you can install the latest official version.

I'm having the same issue, and I installed the latest Virtualbox 7.04 version on a new Kubuntu 22.10. What does "purge the repo version" mean? I tried looking it up but couldn't figure it out. Any tips would really help.

How to delete an app from a Linux OS can be best described by the Linux distro help channels. The Linux distro should have instructions on deleting the distro's fork of Virtualbox.Oxford Languages wrote:purge

Once you get the fork off, run the prerequisites for Official Virtualbox from www.virtualbox.org https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch02. ... nux-prereq then run the official installer.
Re: The VirtualBox kernel modules do not match this version of VirtualBox
Hi lordgodgiven,
I had the same problem. I'm on Ubuntu 22.04.1
I installed Virtualbox from "Ubuntu software" (the official Ubuntu Store). The version was 6.1.
I created Virtual Machine with this version.
Today, I want to use new version 7.0.4 :
I downloaded from the officiel site of VB.et I had the same error when I starting my VMs.
I found a workaround : remove VB Dkms
1. From the console:
- sudo apt-get remove virtualbox
- sudo apt-get remove virtualbox-dkms
2. From the GUI, I install the paquet .deb.
3. I start VB
4. From the GUI, I install the new extension pack
After that, I can start my VMs and upgrade my GuestAdditions
I hope it can help you.
Bye,
Crooky
