ON choosing o/s to start get black screen and 'No Boot available'

Post by ozstar »

Hi,

VB is okay but when I choose to start an o/s I get a black screen and 'No boot available.

I'm new to VB so not sure if I have set the disks up correctly. I see a DVD is the chosen IDE and somehow doesn't seem tight.

Anyway here are the screen shots of Storage.

Is the Controller IDE suppose to be where the original iso is ?

The IDE & SATA setups are correct if you set up the OS template correctly when you made the new VM.

The CD drive is set to use the host's CD drive, which means to use the physical CD in it. If you meant to use an ISO, you have to point the VM CD drive at the ISO. See the manual, section 1.

Many thanks for your help. I have checked out the Manual but I'm sorry I am still a little confused about this area of it.

In the IDE part should I choose the actual iso file? I originally installed VB from an iso file which is in my Downloads folder of Linux, so is this what I look for?

I am quite new to Linux also so not sure about the options IDE Primary, Secondary Device etc.

Please bare with me a little as the penny will drop soon :-)

EDIT:

I changed the IDE to Secondary Device and chose the iso there.
It did start the o/s however it wanted to install it again. I do already have an install of it and that is what I still would like to use and I have made some changes to it.

[SOLVED] Re: ON choosing o/s to start get black screen and 'No Boot available'

Well after trying everything I could for my level, I decided to download another copy of the Zorin 16.2 (ubuntu 20.04) iso and lo and behold it loaded without me having to change hardly anything.
Now it is working after loads of updates and apache2 installed in running.
Should the VB os have a different IP# than the host it's running in?

Glad you're up and running!

Yes. IP addresses must be unique in the same network. They're like house addresses: if two houses have the same address, who's going to get the mail?

Please use a new topic for further questions on different topics than the OP.
