I filed a bug here: https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/17177 (fill in the blanks I cannot post URLs yet) and was directed to post a message on this forum.
It seems that connected USB devices loose connectivity after a live snapshot.

Re: Loss of usb device after live snapshot or snapshot restore
There are two separate issues. One is that taking a live snapshot disconnects USB devices. That should not happen and it is a misdesign. It will likely change.
The other problem is that restoring a snapshot doesn't attach USB devices automatically, or at least not devices that weren't using a filter. That is a very different problem because in the general case the USB device doesn't even exist, so there may not be anything to attach. Even if it does exist and can be identified, it is in an unknown state and would have to be reset. When restoring a snapshot, at best the guest OS will see the USB device briefly disappear and then reappear again. That's not going to change.
