I already told you the cause. What you need to to is find the right compiz option to fix this. Compiz uses overlays to achieve its fancy graphics and is not compatible with off screen captures. It works on metal but in a virtual environment it is really tricky to get to work with off OS packages. It Works well with with dual screen config, well, what's the problem??
could It be a UBUNTU video codec which works bad with virtualbox or a wrong video codec inside virtualbox??

3D Acceleration needs to be set in the guest Display settings and Copy to texture needs to be enabled in the Compiz settings.

Re: Ubuntu 14.04 video capture error
loukingjr & Perryg: Copy to texture & OpenGL are activated! (see the screen copy)
=> No effect.
Same bug.
A solution will be to try Linux MINT... It's seem working with Virtualbox recording function.
Well, i'll use RecordMyDesktop for the moment.
Thanks!

Re: Ubuntu 14.04 video capture error
An alternative would be to add the cinnamon or mate DT to Ubuntu. On the other hand the lmde-rc2 was released today and it also works with webm.

OK loukingjr,
I see you are under UBUNTU 14.10!
I'll do a 14.04 Backup and try UBUNTU 14.10 .... That could be THE solution ...
Thanks!

Re: Ubuntu 14.04 video capture error
@bob L, First, my apologies. I was doing my testing with an OSX host and Ubuntu guests. Capturing video wasn't a problem that way. Playing back those same webm videos on a Ubuntu host was also not a problem. But capturing webm video from a guest using a Ubuntu host and VirtualBox does not work. I tried capturing video from a Ubuntu and a Windows guest and both were green.
I don't know why.

Re: Ubuntu 14.04 video capture error
Some further info:
1. Video Capture works in VirtualBox on OSX hosts
2. Video Capture works in VirtualBox on Windows hosts
3. Video Capture does not work in VirtualBox on Ubuntu hosts
Just to check I installed XFCE in my Ubuntu 14.10 host to eliminate Compiz issues. Logged into XFCE, made sure Compiz wasn'r running. Video capture still results in a green webm.

Works fine for me. Mint-17 with cinnamon. ( Ubuntu based not Debian ) AFAIK cinnamon doe snot use Compiz so that would explain it.

Re: Ubuntu 14.04 video capture error
Well that's why I installed XFCE and ran "killall Compiz" just to be sure it wasn't running. beats me.

Re: Ubuntu 14.04 video capture error
Still a problem with VB 4.3.26.
There are a few tickets on BugTracker. Here is just one. #13806
It is not limited to Ubuntu but happens with any of the 'buntus, i.e. Lubuntu, Ubuntu, Xubuntu etc.

Re: Ubuntu 14.04 video capture error
Curiosity got the best of me. Since Perry said he had no issues with webm captures I decided to go ahead and install Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon on my Linux Box. Installed VirtualBox 4.3.26, a Windows 7 guest and tried to do a video capture. Same problem, webm file was green.
Maybe it's a video card problem (Intel HD 4600). If it is, I'm curious why it can play back webm files but not capture them
