Close VirtualBox without saving state

Post by HighTech »

Hello people
Does anyone know how to close VirtualBox without saving the state of the machine? because when i install some program or create some folder, and delete them, i can recover later, i would like to know if there is any way of these changes i made and created, it is not possible to recover them, In VirtualPC 2007 there is this option and it is perfect . Attached example.

VirtualBox never forces you to save state. If you click the close (X) button on the window you always get an explicit choice.

Hello

I meant that when I create a folder on the windows of the virtual machine and close VirtualBox, the folder is still there, and Virtual PC 2007 had the option of the attached photo, not to save anything, without leaving a trace, VirtualBox does it or not ?

If you make a snapshot you can force the guest to remove the changes or keep them as you desire. https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch01.html#snapshots

There is also an 'immutable' choice for the guest disk type, that will automatically reject changes the next time the guest is turned on, without using snapshots. https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch05. ... magewrites

@scottgus1

I think what he wants is to make the vm disk immutable, so that it will revert to its pristine state after each session.

@BillG Yes, I think 'immutable' would work well for HighTech, too.

HigTech, there is a link above for an explanation of what 'immutable' does to your VM's disk, so it will always go back to the starting point.

Hi
That's not it, because this method create files that can be recovered and what had in Virtual 2007 is effective, because it doesn't save anything session.

If you mean that differential state files are deleted on next run instead of at the end of the current run then yes - and that is the closest you will get with VirtualBox.

Got it, Thanks for trying to help, but VirtualBox had to have this unfortunate improvement. I will continue using MS Virtual 2007 for critical cases
Thanks.
