An unexpected error occurred while configuring the network bridge

Post by zillah »

Dear Experts

I am using Virtual Box 6.0.8 (YES not the latest version) to load the cisco NCS540 configuration and ISO following a Telco instructions

Same instruction please pay attention to same instruction worked for me on windows 7 Ultimate but failed on windows 10 Pro ,,,,,means I am doing everything right otherwise it shouldn't work on windows 7 as well

You are clearly not talking about the bridged networking feature in VirtualBox, so I have to ask: what does this have to do with VirtualBox?

If you have been bridging host network adapters together then you need to undo that right away.

When I was trying to create a bridge network between a Laptop LAN & "Virtual Box Host only Network" that error message popped up
Wouldn't that be something to do with Virtual box ?

Trying a host-OS 'bridge' to a Virtualbox Host-Only adapter is not within the expected use of the Host-Only adapter. Whatever happens happens, and there is no Virtualbox method to make it work.

I agree. The host only network is designed as a link between the host and guest. It is designed to do that and no more. It is not routable (by design)and was not intended to be bridged either.

What are you hoping to accomplish? Why choose host only?

I suspect you have been given bad advice. If you want the VM to have Internet access then you should be using NAT or Bridged networking modes, the latter referring to a VirtualBox feature, not the similarly named host OS feature you already tried. NAT would be used if the VM only requires basic Internet browser access. If the VM needs to be accessible from outside, i.e. if it has to work as a server, then you might use "bridged".

Host-Only network mode is used when you want the VM to be able to communicate ONLY with the host. That's why it has that name.
