Host: WIN10 - Intel or AMD

Post by pentestmonkey1 »

Hi guys,

Based on your experience which one is the better choice to run 2-3 VM-s on a Windows host? (the VMs: Main vm: Kali Linux i like to run it with 3-4 cores and around 4-8GB of RAM, the other VMs: mainly simple linux servers with low hw requirements)

The competitors are: Intel i5 9400F (6 cores, no HT), Ryzen 5 2600 (6 cores, 12 threads).

Tbh I prefer the i5, but the Ryzen is much more powerful (but I'm afraid it's not that stable as the i5)

Thanks in advance guys!

Whatever you choose, remember that simple rule:
  • Total CPUs for your guests + 1 Host CPU cores.
  • Total RAM+vRAM+overhead for your guests Host available RAM + some.
Which in your case translates to "Use up to 5 cores for your VMs, leave at least 1 for your Host".
