Virtualized Ubuntu DNS server on Win 7 you don't see open doors

Post by cinat »

hi I installed an ubuntu server in bridge mode to implement bind9
installation successful.
from ubuntu I quietly resolve the names, the bind9 service starts without problems.
I have disabled firewall (for test), but from windows also using nmap and other programs I can't see any port open and therefore the dns is not reached.
I remember that the firewall has been disabled, but no port is reachable, I can ping linux (ok), but hostname is not resolved.
I have other windows virtual machine and you can see everything quietly.
Is it a virtualbox problem?

Why would it be? I don't see any mention of VirtualBox in there...

What network mode do you use for the VM?

1)virtualbox bridge mode
2)I attach example screen: on ubuntu the port 53 dns is open and nslookup works (resolves the names) - from windows if I analyze the open ports on the virtual ubuntu server the port 53 is not open.
the firewall was deactivated on ubuntu, to check if the problem was due to it.

When using Bridged mode, your VM is acting like another PC on the network. So, why would you expect to have open port 53 on PC1 and not on PC2? They're independent!
