[Fixed] Problem installing guest additions

I've been using VBOX for about 5 years to host a machine

I use my
W10 Version 1809 to host
VirtualBox Version 5.2.26 r128414 (Qt5.6.2) which is running
Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS xenial

I now notice that the shared folders are broken.

Luckily I did a snapshot in Feb when all was good - and when I revert to this version all is good. When I apply the updates - VBOX is broken again.

I'm a new user to this forum and the policy "You must be a member for 1 days and have 1 posts before you can post urls." means I've attached the log as a text file and all my logs are in the vbox.tar archive

There are known build issues with the guest additions with the later 4.4 kernels. One is described in ticket [Fixed] vboxdrv build failure, VBox 5.2.26 32-bit, kernel 4.4.168 (#18315). You should download and install the latest Test Buildsr128999 and later, for both 5.2.27 and 6.0.5.

I am grateful for the guidance - I'll follow your approach - where should I keep looking that I can know when to resume using the normally distributed additions?

As you suggested I installed

Guest Additions 5.2.x revision 12904 - VBoxGuestAdditions_5.2.27-129042.iso {can not post URLs}

The install was clean and the functionality returned
