[Solved] VMs Freezing Hard

Post by JoeA »

I need help with a problem. All of my VMs running either Windows 7 or Windows 10 guest on my Windows 8.1 host that used to work just fine are now freezing. I do not know exactly when the problem started, or what happened on my host machine that introduced the problem. The symptom is that the guest machine will just lock up solid with no response to mouse or keyboard. I have discovered that if I Pause the machine, then Resume, it comes back to life, for a while. Here is a log excerpt where I've done just that where it came back to life, but then 6 seconds later, it froze again:

Please post a VM log file. With the VM fully shut down, right click and "Show Log" in the GUI, save "VBox.log" (no other file) to a zip, and attach the zip here.

You have only assigned one core to the VM, so getting bogged down sometimes is to be expected. I would try adding one more core: your host has 4 so can spare 2 (don't give it more).

Also I would increase graphics RAM from 27MB to 128MB. Your host can easily afford it.

As a test I would also try disabling audio, since I believe that was having some problems in the 5.2.x era.

Thanks mpack, it appears my problem has been solved. As you suggested, I added more cores, increased graphics RAM and disabled audio. So I'm not sure which of those three things solved the problem.
