VT-x is not availabe

Post by jeffreywong8 »

I have an error when I start to install a 32 bit windows 10 ISO on the 6.0.2 windows host VB.
below is the error
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine win10.

Raw-mode is unavailable courtesy of Hyper-V. (VERR_SUPDRV_NO_RAW_MODE_HYPER_V_ROOT).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: ConsoleWrap
Interface: IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}
anyone has the idea to fix it?

You have Hyper-V installed and activated. See some of the Windows specific advice and go thoroughly through the FAQ: I have a 64bit host, but can't install 64bit guests. Remember that these are just guidelines, you have to use your judgement...

thanks for the response.

I have unchecked the hyper-v feature and disable the device guard but the same error still pops up.
any idea what is the next step? my host is 64-bit windows 10, but I just want to install a 32-bit version of windows 10 as a guest.

All the steps are laid out in the FAQ. Please re-read them carefully, there's no "next step", those *are* the steps...

i have followed thru the FAQ but I still have the same error.
I have unchecked the hyper-V and disable the deviceguard already. I don't use windows defender as I'm using mcafee.
I still have the same error, so what am I missing?

I don't know what you could be missing. As it's been said time and time again, unfortunately there's no program out there that can point to a program/feature and say "This is using VT-x". The only thing we can do is to offer some generic guidelines.

For all I know, it could be your McAfee that's using the VT-x part, doing what's called a "Hardware accelerated scanning".

Another thing that has worked in the past is to disable Hyper-V. Power off the computer, pull the power for 1'. Restart, enable Hyper-V, power off, pull the cable. Restart, disable Hyper-V, power off, pull the cable, restart.

Other than that, you got to keep on trying to find the culprit...
