virtualbox became slower

Hi

I use a lubuntu guest on a windows 10 host.
the guest became 3 times slower due to some update that happened on windows (not sure which one).
I've updated virtualbox to the latest version, and installed the latest vmtools, but cpu performance is still very poor.

trying vmware workstation - the compilation process I run runs in the same fast performance I used to get with virtualbox,
what can I do to get the same good performance I used to get in virtualbox?

That's pretty much the summary of your post, which is missing one thing; details. We need details if you want us to help you, otherwise we're going to be shooting in the dark. We can't possibly know if it's your antivirus, your GPU or the Spectre/Meltdown patches. All guesses are welcome...

not really sure what to do with this comment... If I knew which change made virtualbox slow I guess I wouldn't really need to ask here.
I work within a corporate network, can't really control updates to windows or the antivirus.

Is there something you'd recommend to check?
you mentioned spectre/meltdown patches, is there anything that needs to be configured differently if those patches were installed?

If *you* are not sure, what do you want us to do remotely? Expand our guessing game? Because we can't possibly know what's on your computer and what's not! Hey, I bet if you did a clean install of Win10 you wouldn't have that problem...

Again, we can't possibly know what's going on with your computer, unless you give us more details. Unless you start uninstalling software that may affect the performance, with patches and antivirus being the usual suspects.

Check what has changed in your computer between the working/not-working good states. Then you'll have narrowed down the suspects list.

Oh, no, you can't change anything about that. Just search with your favorite engine the terms "spectre meltdown"...
