Unable to run various VMs at once

Post by Hirayoki22 »

Hi. For some reasons I'm not able to run more than two vms simultaneously in my PC.

These are my current specs:
  • Intel Core i5 6500 3.20Ghz
    16GB RAM DDR4 2400Mhz
    GTX 1060 G1 6GB
    x2 SSD 250GB
HDD 1TB (this is where VirtualBox is installed, with +600GB of free space)
I'd like to know whether I'll be able to run at least 3 vms cause I have the feeling I achieved this before, but I can't tell for sure. Thanks in advance!

It really depends on what the vms are doing and how you configure them. First of all they have to fit in memory. With 16G that should be OK unless you give each vm 4G or more memory each. The next limiting factor is how much CPU you allocate each vm. You only have 4 cores and the host needs some as well as the vm.

I can get seven or eight vms in 16G and an i7 but some are very small (XP, Winnt 4 and Win98) and most are not doing much.

If you want specifics then you need to provide a VM log for the failed VM. After the VM is fully shut down, right click it in the GUI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (no other file) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.
