Shared Folders and Vista x64 problem

Post by Phonon »

Hi all,

I'm having problems getting shared folders to work on the following configuration:

CPU: Intel Quad Core 2.4GH, 8 MB Ram
Host: Vista Business 64 bit, Service Pack 1
Virtual System: Vista Business 32 bit, 1 MB Ram
Guest Additions 1.6.4
Windows Firewall is OFF

Symptoms: - unable to see virtual box on Network
- net use x: \\vboxsvr\<drive> returns "The network name cannot be found"
- I have tried it with GA 1.6.2 with no success.

Note that the same setup but emulating a Windows XP virtual system works flawlessly.

Any suggestions????

You can try this in the Vista Guest with Admin rights. Start the DOSBOX as Admin. Find this in the Contextmenu (right Mousekey) on the entry in the menu.

Unfortunately, that did not work.
I tried running the command prompt as administrator and tried 'net use ...', to no avail. That got me thinking and so I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the guest additions as an administrator, but that did not change anything.

Any other suggestions?

Tried the GA from 1.5.6 yet? If not, see if that works.

Hi Phonon,

Instead of using the Shared Folders feature just share a folder on your machine using the standard Windows Sharing then you can access that share by typing (if NAT is used) \\10.0.2.2\ into the address bar of your VM and it acts just like normal networking between two PCS...
