i686 instead of x86-64 CPU?

Post by alacarte »

I downloaded the LTS version of ubuntu off the webpage and upon install to Virtualbox the error message says my pc is not 64bit. my pc is only i686? I use a hp pavilion x360 with windows 10. I thought it was 64 bit?
message says: This kernel requires requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot. Please use a kernel appropriate for your PC.
any help?
PS when i installed the VD the only option showing was for ubuntu 32 bit. there was no other ubuntu versions? hope that helps

I would start by reading I have a 64bit host, but can't install 64bit guests and follow the guidance within.

Thanks Andy. My problem is that i am a newbie and didn't know what to search for. searching for i686 did the trick and may have ended up in the same spot you refered me to. Thankyou
