Issues moving VDI and Snapshots

Post by fugalism »

I'm trying to move the snapshots and vdi files from an old HDD to a new and so far I've had no luck to the point of wanting to pull my own hair out.
I edited the VirtualBox.xml file to match the new location and tried editing the .vbox file of each VM but to no avail. I either get errors or VirtualBox just plain overwrites the file with an empty .vbox file. Virtual Media Manager is pretty useless here as it doesn't allow me to change the location of any .vdi I moved. I'd love some help to properly move these VM's. As a side note, why hasn't VirtualBox implemented anything to make this easier over the past years?

Did you start by reading HOWTO: Moving a VM?
