Hardening Issue ... tried suggestions in Diagnosing VirtualBox Hardening Issues

Post by dwight »

Hi,
I'm running virtualbox 5.0.20 r 106931 on a windows 10 host. It used to run a ubuntu vm fine, and then it stopped. I've been poking at this problem for a while. I've poked harder at it more recently, but still no such luck. I've followed the advice in the 'Diagnosing VirtualBox Hardening Issues' thread:
1) I've Removed all AV
2) I've run the sfc and dism diagnostics.

All report things are ok; however, I'm still getting messages in the log file that seem to indicate from the Diagnosing VirtualBox Hardening Issues. If someone could take a look at the attached zip log file and perhaps give a hint as to the next thing I would be most appreciative.

There are some things in the log that I'm not following and/or seem bizarre:

3258.22ac: supR3HardenedScreenImage/LdrLoadDll: rc=Unknown Status -626 (0xfffffd8e) fImage=1 fProtect=0x0 fAccess=0x0 \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\bcrypt.dll: Grown load config (192 to 256 bytes) includes non-zero bytes: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 60 a9 01 80 01 00 00 00

Any thought would be most helpful...Thanks in advance

That's a really, really old version of VirtualBox. And an unsupported one actually. If you want to use the latest version for your host/guests, you should also consider doing the same for VirtualBox. Download the latest VirtualBox. As of this writing, that would be version 5.2.18.
