[Solved] Guru Med when starting - Exit=0

Post by Badmoon »

Ok, I have been reading through the forum looking for clues and have not found any as of yet. I am attempting to run VB 5.2.18 on an HP laptop (2.16Ghz Pentium) with Windows 10. The guest I am trying is Ubuntu 16.04.5 32bit. I had more issues trying to get a 64bit guest version so I dropped back to 32bit host/guest. Anyway, I have made some progress but am at the point where I am getting a Guru Meditation message on startup. The Hardening log shows an exit code of 0 so I take it, it's not a hardening issue. I have attached a copy of the log. As I am a new VB user, and have not experienced a successful combination of Host/Guest software, I'm wondering if Im missing something obvious to the seasoned users. I have also disabled the Avast Antivirus to see if that was the culprit. It may have been beneficial but it didn't fix my problem completely.

Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Brian

Right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log". Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

I did notice a couple of fail lines in the hardening log last night after completely removing the Avast antivirus sw. They seem to indicate another anti-malware conflict issue.

149c.1f14: NtOpenDirectoryObject failed on \Driver: 0xc0000022

149c.1f14: [Version info resource found at 0x48! (ID/Name: 0x1; SubID/SubName: 0x409)]
149c.1f14: [Raw version resource data: 0x64060 LB 0x2e8, codepage 0x0 (reserved 0x0)]
149c.1f14: ProductName: Anti-Malware Core
149c.1f14: FileVersion: Anti-Malware Core.1.1.3.171.x64
149c.1f14: PrivateBuild: Anti-Malware Core.1.1.3.171.x64
149c.1f14: FileDescription: Event Driver

Im currently looking for this sw so I can disable it at least.

Thanks for taking a look at these.

As well as any hardening issues (I haven't got to that log file yet) then you need to enable this in the motherboard / PC / laptop BIOS. Your Intel Pentium N3540 CPU supports it. See your PC's manufacturer help on how to do this. Also, make sure that nothing else has an exclusive hold on the VT-x.

You are also running a bit tight on memory. I would reduce the RAM to 1024MB and increase the VRAM to 64MB.

EDIT:

This suggests that there is no hardening issue.

I thought it looked like an issue with the display (GUI). I will look into the items above.

Thanks you very much for your input.

I just wanted to report that I am now successfully running VBox 5.2.18 with Ubuntu 18.04.1 64bit on an HP pentium laptop with Windoz 10. In fact I am currently typing this reply in Firefox within Ubuntu.

Thanks you Andy, for you quick and precise assessment of my issue.
