Virtual Box Version 5.2.18 r124319 (Qt5.6.2)
Windows 10 x64 host
XP Home 32-bit
XP Pro x64
XP Home has good internet connection, but XP Pro cannot obtain a connection.
XP Pro shows "network connected" but pages cannot be displayed.
I disabled Windows firewall and lowered IE security to lowest, allowing everything...no joy.
Both XP VMs have same network configuration in VirtualBox.
IP Configs are identical on both, no error on network adapter.
I cannot ping anything outside.
Windows Update also fails to connect.
I have Comcast cable for Internet provider...no recent issues.

Re: No internet connection in XP Pro VM
Please provide a VM log file. With the VM fully shut down, right click it in the GUI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (no other file) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.
More details are required, i.e. which network mode are you using? (e.g. NAT, bridged).
Also how you do you know that you don't have an Internet connection? Hopefully you remembered to update the browser to something less than 15 years old.

Re: No internet connection in XP Pro VM
Hi,
Issue resolved: I installed SP2 and Firefox. I'll update the XP image with SPs 2 & 3.
Thank you!

Re: No internet connection in XP Pro VM
Now you know that you had Internet access all the time. The problem was simply that you were trying yo use an outdated browser.

Re: No internet connection in XP Pro VM
That will never work with a default installation of WinXP. The Service Pack doesn't matter, even at SP3, you cannot use a browser to test for internet connectivity, that's the wrong test. The browser will not work, simply because 1) it's too old, as BillG pointed, 2) the security certificates have expired about 15 years ago...chessman wrote:XP Pro shows "network connected" but pages cannot be displayed.
Now, that *is* a problem. I'm not sure what you tried to ping, but if you can't "ping <default_gateway>", if you can't "ping 1.1.1.1", if you can't "ping download.virtualbox.org", *then* you have an internet connectivity problem.chessman wrote:I cannot ping anything outside.
Glad you got it going. Marking as [Solved].
