[Solved] ERROR [COM]: aRC=VBOX_E_IPRT_ERROR (0x80bb0005)

Post by Mandu »

(Solved - see UPDATE at bottom of post.)

Windows 7 Pro, SP1; VBox 5.2.18

After upgrading from 5.2.16 to 5.2.18 and installing extension pack update, VBox won't start. The error alert box read:
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine spudnut.
The VM session was closed before any attempt to power it on.
Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: SessionMachine
Interface: ISession {7844aa05-b02e-4cdd-a04f-ade4a762e6b7}
The following was written to the log file:
00:03:40.264537 ERROR [COM]: aRC=VBOX_E_IPRT_ERROR (0x80bb0005) aIID={85cd948e-a71f-4289-281e-0ca7ad48cd89} aComponent={MachineWrap} aText={Saved screenshot thumbnail data is not available (VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND)}, preserve=false aResultDetail=0

The error codes seem to be fairly generic and haven't yielded anything helpful via Google, although I've seen clues that this might mean a part of my image got corrupted. Please request additional information if needed.

UPDATE: I just found a VBox.log inside my VirtualBox VMs folder that says:
00:00:01.487534 ERROR [COM]: aRC=VBOX_E_FILE_ERROR (0x80bb0004) aIID={872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed} aComponent={ConsoleWrap} aText={VM cannot start because the saved state file 'C:\Users\charrison\VirtualBox VMs\spudnut\Snapshots\2018-08-16T09-23-49-378433000Z.sav' is invalid (VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND). Delete the saved state prior to starting the VM}, preserve=false aResultDetail=0
I right-clicked on the icon that I normally click to start my VM, and selected "Discard Saved State...". It started right up. I don't think it had anything to do with installing the new version of VBox.
