I am getting an error as follows whenever trying to open a virtual machine or even creating a new one
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine ubuntutest2.
The virtual machine 'ubuntutest2' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1). More details may be available in 'C:\Users\some_username\VirtualBox VMs\ubuntutest2\Logs\VBoxHardening.log'.
Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: MachineWrap
Interface: IMachine {85cd948e-a71f-4289-281e-0ca7ad48cd89}
I have tried all the solutions (that I can, I can't turn off windows defender on this corporate computer) in the hardening suggestions. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, reboots, wiping .virtualbox folder and hand deleting the vbox folder. I can't actually edit the registry. I do have Admin rights but there are limits like I can't turn off windows defender or edit registry. See attached hardening log. I am to the point I may have to have the IT department wipe my machine as I need VBox for my job.

Re: VMWare hardening issue
There might be something wrong with your Windows certificate store. Also, you seem to be running Forcepoint DLP Endpoint Agent or something related, which other user reports seem to indicate it as a cause for VirtualBox hardening issues.

Re: VMWare hardening issue
Why does the title say "VMWare"?
Re: VMWare hardening issue
Just a stupid typo. I'll see if I can change that, but probably can't at this point.mpack wrote:Why does the title say "VMWare"?
Re: VMWare hardening issue
So far everything else seems to work. DLP is installed by IT and I can't uninstall. I suppose it could be a problem, BUT it has been on there for over a year and half without issues.mhanor wrote:There might be something wrong with your Windows certificate store.
