No sound from guest OS's

Post by MarkX »

This is a problem I have had with many versions of VB. Currently I am using 5.2.12 but this issue has persisted for a long time.
Basically I get no sound at all from any guest OS. I can get sound from the host OS.
I have several guest OS's both Windows and Linux.
On the Windows OS's Audio is enabled on the VB settings and Control Panel shows no problems from within the guest OS.

Please advise.

We're going to need to see a VM log from a complete VM run:
  • Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe error / Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
  • With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  • Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

You'll need to update your ATI drivers, they're failing the signing test, you're having a hardening issue. Please read really carefully the following FAQ: Diagnosing VirtualBox Hardening Issues for some guidelines/ideas.

Which one is your preferred device in Windows? Can you eliminate some of them, so that you're left with one option?

I use the Realtek (speakers) for many purposes and the USB headset for my VOIP phone. I;m not sure which to delete. I am worried that sound will stop working for other purposes, which currently works.

FWIW I looked at the harding log file, but I don't see any error codes (all 0x0).
