Windows 10 Host Crashed Unable to get past Windows Repair

Post by dmikemike »

Yesterday was my first time utilizing virtualbox 5.2. I followed a tutorial and set up an Ubuntu 18.04 VM. Everything was running fine. I left the computer for an hour and when I came back my system had crashed. Currently running Windows 10.
"Automatic Repair couldn't repair your PC
Log file: D:\WINDOWS\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt"

I tries to reset the computer while keeping files and it showed "No changes were made"

Not sure what steps to take next.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Just because an OS/program that runs in the context of VirtualBox has a problem, it doesn't make it a VirtualBox problem necessarily. You're having an issue that has most probably nothing to do with VirtualBox, so my suggestion would be to treat it as such, as a native problem with the OS or the application of the guest.

So, think of it as a problem with your guest OS (which is what this is) and start looking for appropriate solutions.

Edit: I read that completely wrong, I thought that the problem was in a Win10 guest. Sorry about that...

You posted this in Windows hosts. Was the problem really on your host?

If yes then you probably had an undiagnosed RAM or hard disk problem on the host. Nothing to do with VirtualBox, it just happens to require more RAM or disk space then most other apps, so the instant it touched the bad RAM or hdd space - bam.

Run RAM and disk tests. It isn't a VirtualBox problem or else other users would be reporting the same thing.

D'oh!
I read that completely the other way round, I thought that the problem was with a Win10 guest. Mea culpa. :o

I had that happen to my Win10 host installation. Mine was after a Win10 upgrade attempt. Absolutely nothing to do with VirtualBox. Win10 refused to do anything, booting from the ISO, repairing, anything. I ended up re-installing it...
