VirualBox displays ubuntu only at top left quadrant of screen. Cannot fill entire screen.

Post by Registrar »

Hello all,

I didnt do any changes to the display profile of my virtual box, but suddenly Vbox behaves like this. I cannot use this really well since the usable space is very very small... :(

I have confirmed that guest Additions were installed, and is also re-installed again after this error, tried many things but does not work. how do i make this work again, and any steps that ensure that i dont lose data, and also that i need to return back to my Ubuntu in the same state where i have right now, will be really appreciated. Thanks for your time and support.

Please see screenshot attached here.

Thanks,
Binny.

We're going to need a complete VBox.log, from a complete VM run:
  • Gather the necessary information:
    1. Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state).
    2. Observe the error, i.e. start the guest, GET OUT OF FULL SCREEN and try again.
    3. Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
  • With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  • Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.
As I mentioned, get out of full screen. Login. Re-install the Guest Additions (GAs). Post the terminal output of the installation process.

Backing up the VM? See the "Moving a VM" post and interpret it as "Backing up a VM".
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.
