Fedora 28 on Virtualbox 5.2 very slow

Post by weberjn »

I run Fedora 28 on Virtualbox 5.2 on Windows 10 on Thinkpad T460s. Guest additions installed. 3D enabled. 2 CPUs, PAE on. 4G.

Text mode is fine.

6 seconds for
systemctl isolate graphical.target

75 seconds from login to desktop ready seems very long.

Any idea what's wrong?

Nope, no clue. Not until we see a complete VBox.log, from a complete VM run:
  • Gather the necessary information:
    1. Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state).
    2. Observe the error/wrong behavior.
    3. Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
  • With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  • Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

OK, these are logs of two sessions that were unusably slow. This time on an i7 desktop.

Tried Ubuntu 18. Same. Tried 3D Acceleration off, problem gone. Haven't tried Fedora.

Your VRAM is too low. Take it to 64 or 128 MB.
