Can't install guest additions

Hello,
I'm new with Virtual Box. I created a virtual machine recently and I need to install the guest additions, but it won't work.
I go in Devices > Insert guest additions CD Image
And nothing happens. Nothing gets mounted, nothing shows up, nothing is happening at all.
I tried to download myself the ISO, but the installation fails and returns an error.
So I'm stuck with a vm with no shared folders and I really need this.

I looked around and found nothing about that problem. Maybe I'm missing something basic and stupid, in that case I apologize. WOuld appreciate any help.

What is the guest OS?

If you have a CD drive as part of the VM settings then the CD got mounted. Whether it will appear in the guest depends on the guest.

Hi, thanks for your reply. It is Mac OS X Mountain Lion.
The thing is the cd drive seems to be working, but I don't know how to make the autorun launch the install...

Joining the various pieces of information together, you seem to have installed macOS as a guest on a Windows host. The Apple Software License Agreement only permits this on Apple hardware (see Important notice regarding Mac OS X as Guest for more details).

On the basis that we know of no-one that has ever done that you will need to prove to us that you are using genuine Apple hardware before we can support you further.

You seem to have a Windows Host, and unfortunately OSX guests are only supported on Apple hardware (which you do not have). See: Important notice regarding Mac OS X as Guest.

In the really rare case (0.001%) that this is actually an Apple computer in which you have installed Windows, and you're trying to boot a legitimate OSX guest and not a Hackintosh, send me a PM and I'll remedy the situation. Be prepared to provide evidence in such a case.
