Virtualbox and Mcafee Endpoint Security

Post by IainGo »

Hi,

We have recently upgraded from Mcafee Virusscan Enterprise 8.8 to Mcafee Endpoint Security. Since carrying out this upgrade, Virtualbox VMs fail to start. We have proved that disabling on access scan in Mcafee Endpoint Security resolves the issue but the Mcafee logs are not giving us any clues as to what needs adding to the Mcafee on access scanning exclusions to allow virtualbox VMs to run whilst still having mcafee on access scanning enabled.

Just wondering if anyone else has come across this issue and if so what was added to the mcafee on access exclusions to resolve it.

regards,
Iain.

I would start with excluding every executable in the VirtualBox executables folder (C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox and child folders). All exe and dll files. There are device driver files in the SYSTEM32 folder, but I would assume that McAffee doesn't mess with those.

You should report error messages precisely if you need accurate replies.
