VM's not staying on host: Win 8.1 / VM: Win 10

Post by Pattman64 »

I have this issue with various VM's (Win XP through Server 2016) on both host machines (win 8.1 as well as my Win 10 Laptop).

But in particular what I am really trying to resolve is the Win 8.1 host and a Win 10 VM.

I can run the VM fine (no errors) but if I leave the VM running and the host goes to screensaver the VM shuts down.
Although I have been playing with VirtualBox for almost a year now, I still consider myself "new to it" and still learning.

Anyone have any thoughts on what I am doing wrong, or what I should be doing with my setup, would be appreciated.

Host:

AMD Phenom II X6-1100T Processor 3.30 GHz
16.0GB RAM
Windows 8.1 Pro

Running:

VirtualBox Version 5.2.8 r121009 (Qt5.6.2)

That's odd. VirtualBox should be able to handle power saving events on Windows hosts.

I notice that although you have the GAs ISO mounted in the VM, you have not installed them. The guest OS is still running with 5.1.24 GAs. I'm not very hopeful, but you can find out what happens if you install the latest GAs.

I was unable to install the latest GA's, but I will try it again.
