Guest Xubuntu display refuses to fit the host's window size

Post by mrzenwiz »

I just installed VB 5.2.8 on my new work Win 10 laptop, along with the extension pack. I built an Xubuntu 16.04 guest on this host, which I run on one 24" HD screen in a maximized window. I installed the guest additions and checked the 3D acceleration box, but the display refuses to resize to fit the window, and the Xubuntu Display manager doesn't get (or give) the right sizes to select.

Where is a setting I can use to convince VB to size the display according to the available space in the window and so inform the guest so it can use it correctly?

What I have is a 1920x1080 screen, but the window borders make it smaller (of course) and I can't use the whole area anyway because of the VB controls.

This wasn't a problem on my Win 7 laptop with VB 5.2.6 or any release before that.
